Dumb Answer of the Week
What Happens When You Speak Before You Think

November 5th - November 13th, 2011

(Seidelman Note:  Credit for discovering this weeks feature goes to an e-mailer by the name of Andrew Elfe.  If it wasn't for his e-mail, we wouldn't have had a new update to this part of the website.  With that said, here is this weeks Dumb answer of the Week with Jim Williams)

Note: I offer my apologies in advance for the guerrilla-esque screen grabs. The source materials for this week's article came from a YouTube user who held his camera up to his TV. There's not much I can do about that. And yes, I'm asking Santa for a DVR or a computer with a TV tuner. Enjoy the article!

Usually the Dumb Answer of the Week is reserved for civilian contestants. This week, however, the DAotW goes to a person behind the scenes.

Let's meet the recipient of this week's Dumb Answer of the Week.

Say hello to Gaby Johnston. She's the executive producer of the current version of "Family Feud". One of the many things she does for the show includes acting as the show's judge. Keep this in mind as we go along, friends.

During the first run edition of "Feud" on November 11, 2011, things were going along as smooth as can be.

The Fogarty family is in control.

With one strike against the family, play comes to Jeanne, and she must name something that comes out of a hole.

"A woodchuck!"

Steve's getting a kick out of the answer. So he calls to the board looking for a woodchuck.

No bones.

With two strikes, we come to Marilyn who is looking for a mouse to be on the board.

Let's see if "mouse" is on the board.

My thoughts exactly, Kyle's mom.

I think someone has some 'splainin' to do.

What follows is yet another reason why the current incarnation of Family Feud is getting ratings comparable to those from the Ray Combs era 20 years ago.

Steve sojourns to the head of the stage to talk with Gaby.

Steve: "A woodchuck is a groundhog? Okay, cool. Maybe I done blacked out. Maybe I done missed some *BLEEP*."

Gaby than explains to Steve that they should have counted woodchuck as a correct answer seeing that a woodchuck is a groundhog.

"Let me ask you something. When was y'all gonna tell me *BLEEP*?"

"SERIOUSLY! I thought...I thought I had blacked out! I didn't know what the hell...SERIOUSLY!"

Oh, and as for Marilyn's answer of mouse...

Strike 2, the Big Board Strikes Back?

Knowing how some answers on the board are altered on the fly to read "(Contestant's answer)/(Our answer)", this never should have happened in the first place. This is a moment that normally would be left on the cutting room floor. But, Steve Harvey is comedy gold, so the powers that be decided to leave it in.

So, in the end I have to give credit to Gaby for allowing her mental lapse to make the final product we saw on the air. I must also give her the latest Dumb Answer of the Week, and a lithograph of her favorite comedian.
